Here we do not just delve into the content of a comic book. We are completely obsessed with the sheer amount of incredible comic book art that is pumped out each week.
This week is no exception. Some of the most talented artists in the comic book business have their work on show.
Comic Book Covers for 24/04/24
Vampirella #668 (Cover E Parrillo Ltd Virgin Variant)
After repeatedly dying then waking up to relive the same day, Vampirella finally cracks the mystery of her temporal prison by assembling clues from the tormenting visions she had thought were just recurring nightmares. Armed with this new awareness, the Daughter of Drakulon discovers the key to restoring her “real” reality: make sure she’s not murdered again!
This limited edition virgin art cover from Lucio Parrillo, is simply stunning
Ultimate Universe #1 (2nd Printing Bryan Hitch Variant)
THE SPOILS OF VICTORY!
After the worlds-shaking conclusion of ULTIMATE INVASION, a new team of heroes bands together to save the future!
Bryan Hitch’s cover for this edition shows an incredible view of heroes and foes alike riding into battle.
Ultimate Spider-Man #4 (Kael Ngu Variant)
WHO IS THE GREEN GOBLIN? Peter Parker’s secret life starts fraying the edges of his personal life! J. Jonah Jameson and Ben Parker’s pursuit of truth – or, at least, the news – stirs unrest with the world at large… And now that Spider-Man may not have to operate alone, the real work of rebuilding this corrupt world can begin!
This incredible cover from Kael Ngu with a unique view of Spidey mid-swing is sure be a classic.
Something Is Killing The Children #36 (Cover H Artgerm Reveal Full Art Variant)
It is a source of regret to me that I did not get into this series earlier enough. I feel a little late to the party now. Every book that comes out looks amazing.
Now #36 with a cover by one of my favorite artists, Artgerm has pushed me over the edge. This is an edition I will definitely be buying.
Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver #3 (Juann Cabal Variant)
With the Wizard and his Frightful Four Hundred hot on their trails, the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are scrambling to separately unravel the mystery of the Wizard’s new arsenal – and new motivations. But when the investigation brings the twins together again, will they be able to put their differences aside long enough to take down an enemy who wants to tear them apart forever?
Scarlet Witch is another favorite of mine. Juann Cabal has produced a very strong cover of a united sibling team.
Robot + Girl #1 (Cover A Mike White)
A new all-ages adventure from Mike White, creator of Penguin Random House’s acclaimed graphic novel series Mellybean! A robot on the brink of obsolescence wanders aimlessly through the city ready to give up on “life” and donate himself for spare parts, until a girl stumbles across his broken, discarded body. In appreciation of her compassion and empathy, the robot attempts to help the girl out with a financial windfall. However, unbeknownst to him, his procurement of funds brings unwanted conflict with the powers that be. As the girl tries to fix the robot’s ethical oversight, he gets apprehended by unknown assailants and must now fight for the life he once wanted to give up on if he ever wants to see his newfound friend again.
Rise Of The Powers Of X #4 (David Nakayama Foreshadow Variant)
WHO IS TRAITOR X?
In the aftermath of the greatest betrayal in X-Men history, the Quiet Council in exile must act. They have a plan. Can anyone, or anything, survive the experience? As the Krakoan Age barrels toward its conclusion, the two series that are one converge on an act that will live in infamy!
I am sure everyone has heard the rumors about Dazzler appearing in an upcoming movie and being linked to Taylor Swift. However this David Nakayama cover is a great homage to the original.
Red Sonja: 2023 #10 (Cover F Frison Modern Icon Variant)
To save the lives of hundreds of people she’s never even met, the She-Devil is forced to face the world’s deadliest swordsman, the only man whose skill with a blade threatens to dwarf Red Sonja’s own! The acclaimed run by writer Gail Simone and artist Walter Geovani kicks into even higher gear in this epic duel of blood and steel!.
Jenny Frison consistently produces stunning cover art and this one is no exception.
Pine & Merrimac #4 (Cover C Galan Full Art Variant)
Linnea and Parker decide to see if the cult is really what it seems to be–and see things that can never be unseen as a result. While they make a desperate attempt to find help, it may be no good, as it’s clear this all runs deeper than they possibly could have guessed!
This cover gives me Pan’s Labyrinth vibes. Check out of work by Fran Galan
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #119 (Cover B Barends Dark Grid Variant)
Despite an unrelenting onslaught from Dark Specter, Earth is the last bastion of relative safety, but is surrounded by an entirely corrupted Morphin Grid!
But it’s only a matter of time before the enemy breaks through, and it will take the combined might of every surviving Ranger to enact their plan!
Far removed from the Saturday morning kids’ show, that haunting by Bjorn Barends shows an altogether more darker side to the Ranger’s.
